American Express Refuses to Process Medical Marijuana Payments

If you've tried buying medical marijuana with an American Express card in the past week, chances are your card was declined. And you're not alone.

Cards began to be declined Saturday, May 1, which was followed by a statement from American Express making it official and saying that it's the company's police to 'adhere to federal law in such matters'.

Fuck American Express! I'm calling on all you potheads out there to ditch your American Express cards if you have one and switch to one of the fine companies that will gladly process the payment for your medicine such as VISA, Mastercard or Discover Card. American Express obviously doesn't want our business.

Payment processing at medical marijuana dispensaries has been a problem for years with national banks refusing to accept dispensaries and merchant services companies refusing to issue card readers. Luckily, the fine people at Weedmaps recently launched their own merchant services system just for dispensaries after having trouble getting their own payments processed. I'm glad somebody is offering a solution to this problem.

Several dispensaries have confirmed that American Express denies payments for marijuana, but according to a Youtube video from The Young Turks, the company has contradicted themselves and denied that they even have such a policy in place:
