In response to a pro-cannabis rally in Jakarta last March, Indonesian Red Cross Chairman and former Vice President Jusuf Kalla released a statement this week saying that marijuana cannot be legalized in Indonesia because, "at a certain dose it is unbelievably dangerous for health," he said.
Well Jusuf, are you aware that marijuana is less toxic than asprin? Your claim that marijuana is 'unbelievably dangerous for health' at certain doses is absolute horse shit.
According to a U.S. government study, an average-sized person would have to consume 1,500 pounds of cannabis, all at once, in order to fatally overdose. In other words, it's fucking impossible!
With cannabis you'd have to consume 250,000 times the amount that it takes to get you high to overdose. With alcohol it only takes about 10-15 times the amount that it takes to feel drunk. At 'certain doses' alcohol is certainly much more dangerous that cannabis ever could be, but is alcohol illegal in Indonesia? No.
Mr. Kalla, your statements about cannabis are mis-leading, manipulative and just plain wrong and that's why you're The Chronicle's Douchebag of the Week.
